What is a Multimeter?

The Multimeter is also referred to as a VOM (Volt-Ohm-Milliammeter), and it serves the purpose of a measuring instrument. It is used to combine several functions into one unit, and usually, it measures voltage, current, or resistance.

Their field of application can be very wide since a large number of jobs require measuring of some function or the other. For example, every electrician should own a multimeter because their job is to measure the electric output, and that would seem impossible without a multimeter, or some other similar measuring device.

How easy is it to use the multimeter?

Well, it may seem that the multimeter is quite hard to use at first sight, but it is not exactly so. The Analog Multimeter is a type of instrument that is a bit simpler if compared to the Digital Multimeter, but it provides accurate readings. The Digital Multimeter can be considered as an improvement of the analog Multimeter, mainly because it offers more functions, and usually, a more detailed screen.

The Advantages of  Digital Multimeters

It has the accuracy of a standard measuring device, and has many functions, making it usable by virtually anyone, at any time, allowing for the combination of units to be measured by a single device.

Usually, only a single measuring unit needs to be determined before any other job may take place. For instance, when measuring your electricity at your home you need only see the intensity of your own electric output.

However, if an electrician by trade has the job of determining the electric consummation of an entire residential zone after which he has to compare them, the use of multimeter would prove to be much more efficient than the use of any other measurement device.

The Advantages of  Analog Multimeters

The Disadvantages of the Analog Multimeter

  • Inferior input resistance – The use of a Digital meter gives for a higher input impedance.
